CEBU CITY, Philippines — Another mayor in Cebu province tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Oslob Mayor Jose Tumulak Jr. announced on Wednesday, February 17, in a statement on social media that he received confirmation that he was infected with COVID-19.

“Gikasubo ko sa pagpahibaw kaninyo nga ako dili exempted sa maong sakit. Tungod sa kadaghang aktibidadis nga atong gitambungan sa pagpanerbisyo, positive ko sa COVID-19,” said Tumulak.

(I am sad to inform all of you that I did not fall as an exemption in getting infected with this disease. With so many activities I attended in line of public service, I tested positive for COVID-19.)

However, the mayor did not divulge further details about his condition, and when he underwent swab tests.

Oslob is a fourth-class municipality located approximately 119 kilometers southeast of Cebu City.

Tumulak’s announcement came just hours after Ginatilan Mayor Dean Michael Singco, in a separate statement, told his constituents that he is in isolation in Cebu City after contracting COVID-19.

He is also the 10th mayor in Cebu province confirmed to have been afflicted with COVID-19.

Other mayors previously infected with the virus were Junard ‘Ahong’ Chan (Lapu-Lapu City), Sun Shimura (Daanbantayan), Michael Angelo Sestoso (Alcoy), Jose Antonio Pintor (Asturias), Danilo Diamante (Tuburan), Lakambini Reluya (San Fernando),  Gerald Anthony ‘Samsam’ Gullas (Talisay City), and the late Barili Mayor Marlon Garcia. /dbs
