7 persons injured in separate road accidents in Cebu
CEBU CITY, Philippines — At least seven persons were injured in three separate road accidents in Cebu province and Cebu City today, March 13, 2021.
At past noon in Barangay Don Andres Soriano, Toledo City in western Cebu, a delivery truck loaded with soft drinks fell on its side after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The accident injured the driver and the truck helper and a family of three including one minor.
Contradictory to previous reports that the accident was caused by a brake malfunction, Police Staff Sergeant Nicanor Doc-ong, the case investigator, said the real reason behind the incident was that the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Doc-ong said that this was proven by the owner of the truck who went to the area to investigate. The owner, Doc-ong said, told him that there was no brake malfunction.
The injured driver, Junard Dugaduga, 29, admitted that he was in high gear and had difficulty shifting to low gear upon reaching the area and lost control of the truck.
The injured truck helper was identified as Janrey Denos, 25.
Doc-ong said that when the truck fell on its side, some of the soft drink bottles shattered sending shards of broken glass flying in different directions.
He said that some shards of broken glass hit three members of a family including a minor, who were beside the road at that time.
All five individuals sustained minor injuries and were quickly brought to the Toledo City District Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, at past 3 p.m. today, a Mitsubishi Pajero also fell on its side after the driver lost control of the vehicle along V. Rama Avenue in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City,
The crash damaged the windshield of the vehicle while the driver emerged unscathed.
An hour later or at past 4 p.m. in Barangay Taytay in Danao City, northern Cebu, two men were injured after the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a bus.
CDN Digital tried contacting the Danao City Police for updates but got no reply as of this posting. /rcg
