Monday morning fire razes 30 homes in Brgy Mambaling

CEBU CITY, Philippines —  At least 30 homes were burned in the fire that hit Sitio Club Kawayan in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City early on Monday morning, March 15.

Fire investigators first reported that the fire alarm was at the Ybanez Compound.  But when the smoke cleared, they clarified that the burnt homes were located in the nearby Sitio Club Kawayan.

Senior Fire Officer 1 (SFO1) Riza Julve of the Cebu City Fire Department said they received the fire alarm at 5:22 a.m.

It was was raised to 2nd alarm after six minutes before it was placed under control at 6:18 a.m.

The fire was put out at 6:57 a.m or more than an hour after it started.

Damage to properties was pegged at P150,000.

Julve said that the fire was reported to have started at the residence of Rabin Siacor that was made of light materials.

It later on spread to nearby homes and burned structures that were located within a 300 square meter area.

Julve said it was fortunate that no one from among the residents were reported injured or killed during the fire incident which broke while most of them were still asleep.

Cebu City fire investigators continue to determine what caused the fire as of this writing. / dcb
