After ‘Henry’ exits, ‘Inday’ seen to enter PH on Friday

With typhoon “Henry exiting the country on Thursday, the Coast Guard and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) are preparing for the entry of tropical depression “Inday”in the country on Friday.

“Though (typhoon Henry) will not make a landfall, it may still affect Visayas since it will strengthen the habagat and bring heavy rains and strong winds,” said Oscar Tabada, Visayas chief of the state weather bureau Pagasa.

In a press briefing, Tabada said the eye of typhoon Henry was spotted moving at 340 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes with 120 to 160 kph winds.

It will exit the country by Thursday but will still affect western Visayas, Tabada said.
Though Inday is still a low pressure area, Tabada said they’re not ruling out the possibility that it might become a typhoon.

Gale warning

He said Inday might also move out of the country’s path.

Tabada said they expect two to three typhoons this month but with two tropical depressions forming in the Pacific, it may rise to four.

Yesterday, the Philippine Coast Guard-Cebu barred nine vessels from sailing after Pagasa issued a gale warning for strong winds and waves that would hit the Visayas and Mindanao seabooards.

These vessels were MV Rosalia 3, MV Gleria 2, MV Fiji 11 and MV Lady of Angels bound for Leyte, MBCA Beep Dream and MBCA Super SM, all bound for Negros, MV Helena and Super Shuttle Ferry 19 bound for Masbate and LCT Cadiz Navs bound to Negros Occidental.

Emergencies

Coast Guard-Cebu Station Commander Rodolfo Villajuan said the vessels will remain docked until the gale warning is lifted. Engr.

Local disaster risk reduction management offices in towns and cities were were activated in advance.

Emergency food supplies have been stockpiled.

With 10 automated weather stations distributed to towns and cities in the province, local officials can check on rainfall data and the potential of flooding in advance, Tabada said.

The Weather Philippines Foundation (WPF) of Aboitiz Group chose the towns of Madridejos, Alcoy, Malabuyoc, San Francisco in Camotes island, Dumanjug, Santander, San Remigio, Tuburan, Daanbantayan and the city of Bogo as recipients of the Lufft-type AWS unit.

The device provides weather information and allows localities to forecast weather.
