The first batch of 14 doctors to be assigned in Cebu’s district hospitals were sworn in Wednesday by Gov. Hilario Davide III.
“They will be working as regular doctors with full-time service in designated provincial hospitals. They’re better than outsourced personnel because there is continuity of service,” Davide said.
It was Davide’s campaign promise in 2013 to improve the level of health care in rural areas by hiring full-time doctors, and doing away with the previous practice of outsouring health personnel through an agency.
In a press conference, Davide thanked the doctors. He said these doctors earn well in private practice but chose to serve the community.
Davide said he expects more to be assigned in the coming months. /USJ-R Intern Maeine R. Mosquite
