More than 10 establishments in Cebu City told to explain possible health protocol violations
CEBU CITY, Philippines—Since the liquor ban was lifted last May, more than 10 establishments here have been issued with show-cause orders to explain possible violations of health protocols, the city’s Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) reported on Monday, June 7, 2021.
“If i-total nato since sugod sa lifting sa liquor ban, lapas na gyud 10,” Lawyer Jared Limquiaco, BPLO head, told reporters in a series of messages.
(If we’re going to sum up since the lifting of liquor ban started, we have issued show cause orders to more than 10 establishments.)

Recently, BPLO issued a show-cause order against a restobar located in Barangay Kasambagan after more than 200 individuals were seen crowding the bar last Saturday, June 5.
The Cebu City Police in earlier reports said the bar’s management told authorities that the people were crowding their establishment to take shelter from the rain.
Limquiaco said they have given the bar owner and management three days to respond to their show-cause order.
He also said they have allowed the bar to operate pending the resolution of the BPLO.
“Wala tay preventive suspension. So pending resolution sa issue, pwede pa sila maka operate… But gipa bantayan na sad na namo sila para ma note if naay violations while ga huwat sa resolution,” explained Limquiaco.
(We didn’t issue any preventive suspension. So the resolution of the issue is still pending, they can still operate… But we had them monitored to note if they will commit any violation while waiting for the resolution.)
The city repealed the liquor ban last May to help businesses, particularly restaurants and bars, get back on their feet amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
However, regulations are still in place such as limiting the number of customers at a time, and ensuring minimum health standards are still being observed.
