August haul: CCPO seizes P85M shabu, nabs 163 drug suspects
CEBU CITY, Philippines — At least P85 million worth of shabu has been confiscated in 180 anti-drug operations of Cebu City policemen in the month of August.
Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) chief, said that this would show that the illegal drug problem in the city had continued to be a recurring problem.
With this, Ligan also assured that despite the pandemic, they had also intensified their anti-illegal drug operations to address this and the results showed the fruits of their efforts.
Ligan said during last month’s operations, they confiscated 3,743.73 grams of suspected shabu which had with an estimated Standard Drug Price of P85,457,364.
For the month of August, he said that they also arrested 163 individuals during this anti-drug operations and these included 40 high value individuals and the rest were suspected street-level drug peddlers.
He also noted that 90 percent of the suspects, who were arrested in their operations since the start of the year, claimed to have transacted with a Cebu City Jail detainee in allegedly helping them get illegal drugs.
Ligan has assured that they were in close coordination with the Cebu City Jail management which the latter had also conducted their regular greyhound operations and isolation of inmates.
Aside from that, he said the increased police visibility in the city had also helped in curbing crime here.
He said that despite their operations against illegal drugs, they still were serious in the strict implementation of health protocols especially since they observed that being strict in this area had helped lower COVID-19 cases in the city.
