MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — The Mandaue City government has allocated P150 million for the procurement of tablets or tablet computers this time for grades 5 and 6 students.

City Treasurer, Lawyer Regal Oliva, said the allotted P150 million would be used to buy tablets for 8,000 students in grade 5 and grade 6.

The city had also provided free tablets to over 20,000 Junior and Senior high students since last year.

Oliva said since education is leaning towards the online platform due to the COVID-19 situation, Mayor Jonas Cortes’ administration would not want students from the city to be left behind when it would come to receiving quality education.

Oliva said he just hoped that parents and students would keep and take care the tablets.

The city treasurer said there were a few parents who returned the tablets used by their senior and junior high children that were very damaged.

Though, Oliva said most of the parents were very keen and very responsible in handling the equipment.

Meanwhile, Oliva said they had not touched the P200 milion budget for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines just in case there would be a need to buy vaccines, and there would be money available.
