New bulldozer, brick maker for Mandaue relocation site
The city government of Mandaue is speeding up work in the 6.5-hectare relocation site in Paknaan with the turn-over last week of a bulldozer worth P13 million.
Also inaugurated was the relocation site’s new brick making machine.
City Hall plans to relocate 1,200 residents living in danger zones in the site, and hopes to complete the site development by next year.
Site development includes the road network, drainage, the mitigating measures, electricity and water system.
Labor counterpart
Mayor Jonas Cortes said that beneficiaries must contribute labor to own the housing unit for lesser expense.
“It is important for them to have a sense of ownership, they can’t just leave or sell their unit, let’s avoid the practice of dole-out because it will just go back to the old problem, the fact that there was no sweat equity to it,” Cortes said.
Yesterday’s turn-over also included the blessing of the Hydraulic Machine that is used for making the Interlocking Compressed Earth Block (ICEB) bricks used in building the housing units.
The machine was purchased by Bantayan sa Hari Homeowners Association of Barangay Looc as their livelihood project. The bricks are sold cheaper than hollow blocks.
