Man Killed In Drug Raid

By: Norman V. Mendoza December 14,2013 - 08:24 AM

A 24-year-old man was killed while four others were arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in barangay Kalawisan, Lapu-Lapu City last Thursday afternoon.

Police said Harold Abad, 24, allegedly drew a .45 caliber pistol and tried to shoot one of the arresting team.

One of the operatives of the City Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (Caidsot) shot Abad in the chest before he could pull the trigger, said Senior Insp. Rogelio Pineda Jr., chief of Caidsot of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

Arrested were a 42-year-old man, his 16-year-old son, Rodolfo Sumalinog, 73, and Joseph Inihaw, 26.

Pineda said the subject of the raid was the 42-year-old man who was tagged as a level two drug pusher capable of selling at least 200 grams of shabu a week.

Seized during the operation were several packs of suspected shabu worth at least P500,000, police said.

AN INMATE escaped from the Lapu-Lapu City jail by way of his cell’s ceiling and using plastic straws to climb down the fence.

Rex Mata, 26, who is facing charges for possession of illegal drugs and robbery, was discovered missing after yesterday morning’s routine head count.

The jail guard who was on duty when Mata escaped could be suspended for negligence, according to Jail Warden Reynante Rubio.

A native of Olango island, Mata was jailed last September after charges for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were filed against him. He had been jailed several times before, mostly for his involvement in the illegal drug trade and in robbery incidents.
