The 28-year-old man who stabbed his wife 31 times because of jealousy was arrested in their home in barangay Japitan, Barili town, southwest Cebu at past 10 a.m. yesterday.

A concerned citizen reported to the police the presence of Jerome (real name withheld) in the house.

PO2 Jeffrey Alpas, desk officer of Barili police station, said that Jerome did not resist when four police personnel along with barangay tanods arrived to arrest him.

He will be charged with frustrated parricide.

Alpas said Jerome is very quiet and does not answer any questions from the police.

Jerome allegedly stabbed his 23-year-old wife, Gemma (not her real name), in front of their two children Tuesday afternoon using a pair of scissors.

Jerome suspects that Gemma is having an affair with his brother-in-law who used to live with them.

Last Tuesday, Jerome got mad after he saw Gemma inside the room where his sister and his brother-in-law used to stay.

While Gemma was sweeping the floor, Jerome grabbed and confronted her.

This resulted in a heated argument.

Jerome took a pair of scissors and stabbed Gemma six times in the chest, eight times in both arms and 17 times in the stomach.

Gemma also managed to get out of the house. The couple’s children, aged 8 and 4, asked for help.

Her cousin who was on the way to the market saw her and immediately brought her to Barili District Hospital.

She was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.
