CEBU CITY — The national highway from Liloan to San Fernando has been reenergized.

This was the statement of Visayan Electric in a press conference on Thursday, December 30, 2021, two days before the year ends and two weeks since super typhoon Odette caused massive damage in Cebu.

Engineer Raul Lucero, the president and chief operating officer (COO) of Visayan Electric, said that as of Wednesday night, December 29, San Antonio and Ubay in Liloan town northern Cebu to 1 kilometer before Sangad in San Fernando town southern Cebu is now lighted.

They are working on reaching Cotcot in Liloan and Sangad in San Fernando as these are the boundaries of Visayan Electric’s franchise in both sides of Metro Cebu.

“Makita nila nga ang streetlight nisiga na gani and tanang customers along sa highway nisiga na, nagpasabot ana ang kuryente naa sa inyong tugkaran.”

“Mao na mohangyo mi nga i-extend pa nato atong pasensya kay ang kuryente naa na sa duol. Ipasulod nalang nato but kay careful ta kay daghang wires nga nangaputol, di ta ganahan makacause og kadaot,” said Lucero.

While the national highway is mostly lighted, restoration efforts continue at the South Road Properties (SRP) and Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR).

They expect the SRP and CSCR to be completely energized within Thursday, December 30, 2021. The area is vital  because the Talisay City Hall and other government buildings are located here.

Water pumps

In Talisay City, the reenergization effort is also being hastened from the substation in Linao connecting to Dumlog, and then to Poblacion, Tangke and San Roque.

Visayan Electric is working on completing the reenergization of Talisay City because the water pumps in Lagtang and Jaclupan need to be reenergized as soon as possible.

For water pumps, the power distributor has now energized 55 out of 80 Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) pumps in Cebu City alone, helping provide the much needed water supply in certain areas.

As for hospitals within its franchise area, Visayan Electric has managed to power 30 out 32 hospitals, with only the Sacred Heart Hospital in Urgello, Cebu City, and the hospital inside Camp Lapu-Lapu in Barangay Apas left unenergized.

Lucero said they aim to energize both hospitals by Thursday to beat the deadline of January 1, 2022.
