More policemen were deployed to the mountain barangay of Agsungot, Cebu City yesterday.
Cebu City Police Chief Noli Romana said he was sending more men to the area to stabilize peace and order situation and prevent another shoot-out over a land conflict.
Last Sunday, a police SWAT team exchanged gunfire with members of the group Lumad Alimaong, who were meeting in a cottage.
An Alimaong member was killed while a policeman was wounded in that clash.
Romana said he had already declared members of the Lumad Alimaong a threat in the barangay, where several residents are contesting the group’s claim of possession of ancestral land.
Romana said the police will arrest any one for illegally carrying firearms.
He said no one is above the law and that members of the Lumad Alimaong, who originally came from Mindanao, must have the necessary documents and licenses to own a gun.
He also called on the group members to surrender their firearms to avoid another confrontation with the police.
Members of the Cebu City Public Safety Company will stay in the area until the situation returns to normal, he said.
