MANILA, Philippines — No tropical cyclones are expected to enter the country until the end of February, the state weather bureau said, but the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) will affect Mindanao.

In its latest weather bulletin Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA’s trough is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the southern region.

The LPA, Pagasa noted, was last spotted 900 kilometers east-southeast of Mindanao. But it will not likely develop into a storm and is not anticipated to enter the Philippine area of responsibility, it added.

Nevertheless, Pagasa warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains in parts of Mindanao.

Meanwhile, the eastern section of Northern Luzon may experience overcast skies with rain due to the shear line, where the northeast monsoon which is locally termed as “amihan” and the easterlies intersect.

The rest of Northern Luzon, according to Pagasa, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain due to the northeast monsoon.
