CEBU CITY, Philippines—The world title dreams for Cebuano slugger Joe “Jawbreaker” Noynay will likely be shelved after he was knocked out by Australian Liam Wilson in the second round of their rematch at the Nissan Arena in Brisbane, Australia on Thursday evening, March 3, 2022.

The 25-year-old Wilson decked Noynay twice in the second round en-route to dethroning the Cebuano, who was the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific super featherweight champ.

Noynay defended the title three times before losing to Wilson on Thursday evening.

Wilson patiently waited for the right timing to land his signature left hook that staggered Noynay in the second round. He then followed it up with a combination that put Noynay to his knees.

The Bogo City native managed to get back on his feet, but a few seconds later, he got hit with another left hook. This time, he came crashing down to the canvas.

Noynay managed to get up right away, but struggled to keep his balance. His corner immediately climbed into the ring to stop the fight.

Trouble already disrupted Noynay’s camp after he appeared during the official weigh-in, way beyond the contracted weight limit. Noynay tipped the weighing scales four kilograms over the weight limit, and needed to shed off weight.

Noynay suffered his third loss with 19 wins, eight knockouts and two draws.

Wilson improved to 10-1 (win-loss) with seven knockouts.

Last July, Noynay defeated Wilson after scoring a technical knockout in the fifth round. He floored Wilson four times in their first duel.
