Lapu cop faces raps for killing resto bar waiter
Complaints for murder and frustrated murder were filed against the police official who shot dead a waiter and injured a bouncer of a resto bar in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City last Friday dawn.
The complaints against Insp. Rogelio Amoroso, 35, were filed with the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutors’ Office last Monday afternoon.
Amoroso shot dead 18-year-old John Stephen Lagsanay, waiter of Lotus Resto Bar.
The policeman, who is assigned at LLCPO, also shot and wounded the resto bar’s bouncer Archie Gesta, 37.
Insp. Zenaido Pastorfide Jr., chief of LLCPO’s Homicide Section, said they initially prepared frustrated homicide charges against Amoroso.
Pastorfide said the cases were upgraded to murder and frustrated murder after a discussion with the victims’ legal counsel Leo Castañares.
“Not that we are siding with Amoroso but we believed that homicide and attempted cases should be filed based on the footage of the CCTV and testimonies of the witness,” said Pastorfide said in Cebuano.
The victims’ relatives pushed for murder and frustrated murder cases to be filed against Amoroso.
Gesta had told police that Amoroso attacked them when they asked him to deposit his firearm.
The policeman claimed he was forced to retaliate when the bouncer mauled him inside the resto bar.
