Criminal charges were filed yesterday against the police officer who allegedly shot the neighbor of his sister in barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

PO2 Celso Colita was escorted by fellow policemen to the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office past 2 p.m. yesterday when he appeared for inquest proceedings. Assistant City Prosecutor Rhodna Bacatan gave him five days to respond to charges of frustrated murder and illegal possession of firearms filed against him.

Colita, who is assigned at the Guadalupe Police Station, was arrested by barangay tanods after he purportedly shot 28-year-old Jun Macani in the right hand and neck with an unlicensed revolver last Saturday evening.

The victim was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center where he is already in a stable condition.

Homicide investigators said the policeman got angry at Macani who was accused of touching the private parts of the policeman’s 19-year-old sister last Sept. 28.
