LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — Newly installed Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Representative Cindi King-Chan has already started visiting and inspecting the ongoing projects of her predecessor, former congresswoman Paz Radaza.

On Friday, July 1, 2022, Chan inspected the drainage project in Saac, Barangay Buaya.

She said that the project was started in September, however, the contractor has stopped working on it.

Motorists in the area were already complaining due to some holes in the road.

“Una nato nga giduaw kay ang drainage project sa may Saac, Buaya nga matod pa sa residente nga atong nastorya, pag miaging Septembre pa gibangag-bangagan ang karsada nga hangtod karon wala pa gayud natiwas og atiman. Makaluluoy intawon ang mga trisikad ug trisikol driver kay mangabwasot man ang ligid sa ilang mga sakyanan,” Chan said in a facebook post.

Chan promised the residents in the area that she will continue the project and that she will look for additional funds to finish it.

“Dili ako motugot nga dili gayud kini humanon kay una, padayon nga mag-antos ang mga katawhan sa kahasol niini ug ikaduha, di nako itugot nga masayang ang kwarta sa mga taxpayers nga gigahin para niini,” she added.

The congresswoman also visited on Sunday, July 3, 2022, the project that serves as an outfall of water from the drainage in Barangays Agus, Basak, Marigondon, and Suba-Basbas.

Chan, however, has noticed that during high tide, the seawater would overflow the outfall resulting in the backflow of water.

“Maong usa sa atong mga aksyon nga mahatagan kini og resolusyon kay ang pagbutang og flood control gate kung diin susama kini sa gibuhat sa ubang nasud nga aduna tay ibutang nga stopper sa tubig dagat,” she said.

In a statement, Radaza said that these projects were already funded so there’s no reason that they cannot be continued.

“Dili ta mabalaka nga basin dili kini mapadayon nga mga proyekto. Kompleto na ang budget para mahuman ang mga scope of work niini, nga anaa intact sa DPWH/National Government nga maoy nag-implement sa mga proyekto,” Radaza said in a statement.

She also said that a total of P2.8 billion worth of projects that she was able to implement during her term as a congresswoman.

“Daghan na ang nahuman ani nga mga proyekto. Ug naay pipila nga sugdan pa o padayon nga gitrabaho sunod sa gitakda nga schedule of work,” she added.     /rcg
