Cordova gov’t monitoring foreign visitors, residents
Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy said they are monitoring foreigners living in or visiting the town as part of their campaign against human trafficking.
Sitoy said while the police had been doing a commendable job, human trafficking remains a serious concern as shown by last Wednesday’s arrest of a German national.
“We could not prevent foreigners from visiting Cordova. So, we just need to keep track of them. There will be no letup in our campaign against human trafficking,” the mayor said.
Last Wednesday, police arrested German national Dietmar Moenig inside his rented house at Golden Meadow Subdivision in Cordova town.
He was accused of sexually molesting a 14-year-old girl who was rescued by the police. Last Friday, Moenig was charged with two counts of acts of lasciviousness, rape, and qualified trafficking before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutors’ Office.
His lawyer Inocencio De La Cerna Jr. said Moenig chose to undergo preliminary investigation so they could submit a counter-affidavit to refute the allegations.
