The University of Cebu and Alliance Software Inc. recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement that seeks to establish an upgraded industry-academe linkage program by way of its “Near Hire Program” that aims to further enhance the school’s Information Technology curriculum.

The course/subject, dubbed “Introduction to Japanese Bridge Software Engineering” will cover Project Management, J2EE (Java), and Nihongo, subjects that will develop the language and hone the students’ technical skills to prepare them for higher employment opportunities in the IT field particularly in Japanese companies.

Scheduled to be implemented starting November 2014 for a duration of 3 years, class size will be between 30 to 45 students.

Robert Cheng, president and chief executive officer of Alliance Software, declared that Cebu is ripe for advanced technological and linguistic programs.

“We also prepare them for the globalization process as we aim to raise our competitiveness ratings vis-a-vis our Asean neighbors. With Vietnam as our main competitor, we seek to raise the bar by merging foreign curricula and practices with our local counterparts to maximize our workforce talents,” he said.

Atty. Augusto Go, UC president, said that UC was one of the first universities in Cebu to offer IT courses as he recalled his visit to the University of Berkeley in 1981 to examine their computer courses and determine its feasibility in relation to the Cebuano setting.

Alliance Software will collaborate with UC in setting up the course, provide the reference materials, and assign the necessary personnel to coordinate and co-teach alongside designated faculty members.

The program is also subject to review and enhancements to conform to novel trends and practices in the field to cope with current practices and standards.

Now in its 50th year, UC has remained firm in its commitment to provide quality yet affordable education. UC’s vision statement to “democratize quality education” is seen with the thousands of scholarships offered annually, giving underprivileged but deserving students a shot at a bright future. Scholarship grants come in the form of academic, working, cultural, athletic and peer facilitator scholarships, UC discounts and privileges, corporate, institutional, government and individual sponsored scholarships and Maritime International Scholarship Grants.

With campuses strategically located in Banilad, Sanciangko, Mambaling and Mandaue City, UC students continue to top the board exams and excel in national and international competitions. Visit www.uc.edu.ph for more information.
