CEBU CITY, Philippines— The Jiu-jitsu siblings of Cebu, Ellise Xoe and Eliecha Zoe Malilay won gold and silver in the Mother of the Nation Jiu-Jitsu Cup in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates over the weekend.

The younger Ellise Xoe bagged a gold medal in the women’s under-16 open belt category, while Eliecha Zoe won silver in the women’s under-18 open belt class.

Instead of representing their team, the Atrixion MMA Academy in Dubai, UAE, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu stars were loaned by the Sharjah Self Defence Sports Club as imports.

They were joined by fellow Filipina Mira Balboa, Brazilian Brigida Filipe, and Spanish Ariadne Medina.

During the competition, the 14-year-old Ellise Xoe opened her campaign by defeating Maryam Aldhaheri of the UAE by points, 20-0. But in the next round, Ellise Xoe lost to another UAE BJJ athlete Dana Ali Albreiki via advantage.

However, she bounced back by beating Latifa Al-Ali by advantage in the following round which earned her a slot in the final against her tormentor.

In the finals held the following day, Ellise Xoe exacted revenge, beating Albreiki via advantage to take home the gold medal.

Meanwhile, her older sister, Eliecha defeated Mahra ALmazrouei via an armbar submission in her first match then beat Shouq Faisal via a zipper choke submission to earn a finals slot.

She faced a familiar foe in Rauda Nasser Alshamsi which she bested numerous times in various BJJ international tournaments in the UAE. However, this time, Alshamsi got the better of her, beating her in the finals.

Last July, the Malilay siblings also shone in the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro Tour Fujairah International Pro-Gi tournament.

Their next tournament will be the AJP Tour Asia Continental Pro UAE 2022, and the World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Abu Dhabi later this year.  /rcg
