THE regional office of the Department of Education (DepEd-7) has identified 25 schools that will serve as evacuation centers should typhoon Ruby hit Cebu this weekend.

Victor Yntig, DepEd-7 field supervisor, said these classrooms are now ready. He said DepEd started prepping up the schools last  Wednesday.

In Talisay City. among the schools that were identified as possible evacuation centers were: Tabunok Central Elementary and Night High School, Candulawan Elementary School, and San Isidro Elementary and National High School.

In northern Cebu, newly-built classrooms  which are rated as typhoon-resilient would be highly considered as potential evacuation sites, the DepEd-7 official said.

Yntig said evacuees may only stay in the schools for a maximum of three days in accordance with DepEd policy.
“We should also consider the disruption of classes. If we let them stay too long, the students will miss a lot,” he said.

Under the camp management program, the local government units and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will take responsibility of the evacuees once they are inside the evacuation centers.
