Radio communication volunteers are pre-positioned in northern Cebu ready to work if other  communication facilities are down.

Maritoni Corominas, president of the Federation of Volunteers through Radio Communications (FVRC), said around 600 volunteers were activated throughout Cebu to man operations in critical areas for typhoon Ruby.

The volunteers are also trained in first aid and basic life support.

Among the critical areas identified by the FVRC are Bogo City, San Remigio, and Bantayan Island in north Cebu.

The Capitol will also be linked to the Office for Civil Defense (OCD7) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Fifty-one sattelite phones  requested by the Province  were  delivered yesterday afternoon. Baltazar Tribunalo, head of the provincial disaster office, said he will use one.

Gov. Hilario Davide III  and other key persons will also be assigned units.

Tribunalo said the Province has at least 150 volunteer responders on standby./Correspondent Victor Anthony V. Silva
