A travelogue that would narrate the history of Christianity in Cebu will conclude the 35th year annual Sinulog grand parade in January.
Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) executive director Ricky Ballesteros said they are preparing a finale that starts with the history of the kaplag or the discovery of the miraculous image of the Sto. Niño, the Augustinian priests’ stay in Cebu and the enshrinement at the basilica.
The 2015 Sinulog dance drama will feature 600 cultural dancers and 100 choir members.
Ballesteros said they are trying to incorporate religious preparations of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño with SFI’s cultural preparation under a common theme “Sto. Niño, Hope of the People.”
The Grand Parade will be celebrating its 35th anniversary next year while the Augustinian fathers celebrate the 450th year of their mission in the country.
Enshrinement
The celebration coincides with the 450th anniversary of the “Kaplag” and the 50th anniversary of the basilica.
Ballesteros said Sinulog organizers are now scouting for videos or clips of the basilica’s enshrinement made in 1965.
“The Sinulog will still be cultural but the whole celebration is religious,” Ballesteros said.
Ballesteros said they will also be having the facade of the basilica as a backdrop on the Sinulog grandstand stage.
Construction of the 14 meters by 44 meters stage already started on Wednesday.
