Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan turns over a check equivalent to his three months’ salary to Fr. Edgar Lumarda, the parish priest of St. Agustine Parish, in Olango Island.

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has donated his three months’ worth of salary for the restoration of the St. Agustine Parish in Olango Island.

The church suffered extensive damage from Super Typhoon Odette in December 2021.

Fr. Edgar Lumarda, the parish priest of St. Agustine Parish, personally accepted the cheque from the mayor.

The mayor has a monthly salary of more than P188,000.

Chan said that Lumarda and his staff have really wished that their parish will be restored after the typhoon.

Aside from this, the amount will also be used for the construction of a new convent.

“Maong sa walay pagduhaduha, atong gihalad ang atong tulo ka buwan nga sweldo isip donasyon nga maoy ilang magasto sa pagpaayo sa simbahan ug matabang2 sa katukoran sa ilang gipangandoy nga bag-ong kombento,” Chan said on his Facebook post.

Chan also congratulated Lumarda and the devotees of St. Agustine Parish for their upcoming new convent and the restoration of their church.

“Kung ang ilang misyon kay mao ang pagpadayon sa pagpakatag sa pulong sa Ginoo ug mas pahugtan pa ang atong pagtuo ngadto Kaniya, ang akoang misyon isip amahan sa syudad kay mao sab ang pagsuporta sa tanan nilang mga lakang ug para sa kaayuhan sa tanang mga sumosunod,” he added.     /rcg
