CEBU CITY, Philippines – The suspect behind the fatal shooting during a disco last January 21, 2023 in Minglanilla town, Cebu is now behind bars.

Minglanilla Mayor Rajiv Enad announced on Wednesday, February 1, that authorities have already detained Benjie Dolino at the Minglanilla Police Station.

He surrendered before Cebu City Councilor Philip Zafra and deputy city director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), Police Lieutenant Colonel Jeanette Rafter, said Enad.

The suspect reportedly had been hiding for two weeks.

“Matod pa ni Dolino, nakahuna-huna siya nga motahan sa iyang kaugalingon kay nahadlok siya nga gipangita na siya sa mga awtoridad,” Enad added.

(According to Dolino, he thought of turning himself in because he was scared that he was being hunted by the police.)

Dolino is accused of allegedly killing a discogoer, a seaman identified as Newlbert Ontua Cadavid, in a disco held in Brgy. Tulay at around 3 a.m. on January 21.

The suspect reportedly fired his gun after Cadavid apparently brushed against him while dancing. Based on earlier police reports, Dolino fired multiple times at Cadavid.

Another discogoer, Gary Franza Larosa, was also injured.

Minglanilla is a first-class municipality located 19 kilometers south of Cebu City.
