Some of the best local triathletes are expected to see action in the first-ever  Cebu City Triathlon slated Jan. 25 starting at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

Quinito Moras of the organizing Cornerstone Group said most of the triathletes who have joined their 80/80 triathlon series in Cebu are interested to sign  up for the event, which features a 750-meter swim course, 20-kilometer bike race and a 5-kilometer run leg.

He said 200 triathletes have already registered but they haven’t gone over the names yet.

“We have not sorted the names yet but we know that the winners and participants of our 80/80 race are interested to join,” Moras said.

He also said some of the best local triathletes have signified their intent to join. These include Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines Filipino Elite third placer Kristiane Lim, runner-turned-triathlete Jorry Ycong, the lone Filipino professional off-road triathlete Joseph Miller and the Chiongbian siblings, Yuan and Justine.

A whopping P100,000 is at stake in this race, with the lion’s share of P25,000 going to the first placers in the elite division. Special prizes also await the winners in the age-group categories.

The swimming leg of the race will be held at the swimming pool of the CCSC. A total of three loops equivalent to 250 meters per loop will be completed by each participant.

The 20k bike segment will lead participants to the South Road Properties while the run portion will be held mostly along Osmeña Boulevard.

Organizers are expecting 500 triathletes to join the race.

Registration is going on at the 30 Kitchen + Bar at The Gallery in Mabolo and at the Philippine Sports Commission office at the CCSC. Registration fee is pegged at P2,500 while a loyalty discount will be given to those who joined the previous 80/80 races.
