New Year’s Day will be sunny

The last day of 2014 will have cloudy skies, some sunshine and light showers.

“But the heavy rains are gone,” said Oscar Tabada, director for the Visayas of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Agency (Pagasa).

“New Year’s Day will be sunny,”  he said.

Tabada said Seniang’s rains  skipped Metro Cebu, but poured volumes of water in in southern Cebu.

The typhoon hit  Sibonga town at 4:45 a.m.

Before it made landfall in southern Cebu, torrential rains had caused rivers and waterways to overflow.

The rain gauge of Project Noah of the Dept. of Science and Technology (DOST) in Argao town showed intense to torrential rains from 5 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Rainfall peaked at 3 a.m. just before the eye of Seniang hit Sibonga town.

At around 6 a.m. Seniang exited Cebu through Dumanjug town and into the Tañon Strait.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, Seniang (international name: Jangmi) was tracked in the Panay Gulf, 108 kilometers southwest of Ilo-ilo City heading to Cuyo Island.

The storm maintained 65 kilometer per hour winds and 80 kph gusts, and was traveling at 19 kph.

All storm warning signal in Cebu were lifted in the 5 p.m. weather bulletin.

Seniang is forecast to be 110 km west of Puerto Princesa City this afternoon and by Thursday afternoon  will be 260 km south of Pagasa Island in the West Philippine Sea.

Signal no. 2 was hoisted over Cuyo Island, Palawan, Guimaras, Southern Antique and Southern Iloilo.

Signal no. 1 was declared over Calamian Group of Islands, Negros Occidental, Aklan, Capiz, Rest of Iloilo, Rest of Antique.
