About 8,000 pieces of commemorative stamps of the papal visit from the Philippine Postal Corp. were delivered to its Central and Eastern Visayas office in Mandaue City last Monday.

Postage stamp custodian Emma Bacayo of the Central and Eastern Visayas office said they sent out 2,000 pieces of the commemorative stamps to their Tacloban City Postal Office and 1,000 pieces to the Palo Postal Office.

“We are expecting a lot of stamp collectors in these areas, and most likely pilgrims for the Pope’s high Mass will consider purchasing these stamps as remembrance for this once in a lifetime event,” Bacayo said.

She already sent out 100 stamps to the Metro Cebu post offices.  “These are solely for collection, we are not using this for mail. Those collectors can just directly come to our postal offices and purchase the four different stamp designs at P10 each,” Bacayo said.

She said stamp collectors usually buy one of every design. The papal visit stamps come in four designs.

One design shows the Pope kissing the forehead of Cardinal Tagle, another stamp showing Pope Francis’ face with the Philippine flag in the background.

There is also a stamp showing a father and son hugging with the pope’s face on the background and the other stamp shows the pope’s smiling face.

Bacayo said the designs came from the winner of the on-the-spot stamp design contest held earlier last year.
