Tugade quits as LTO chief; cites differing methods with DOTr
MANILA, Philippines — Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Jose Arturo Tugade has stepped down from his post.
In a Monday statement, he explained that he quit over the LTO and the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) differences in public service.
“Even as DOTr and LTO both aim to succeed in serving the public, our methods to achieve that success differ. For this reason, I am stepping down, so Sec. Jimmy Bautista will have the free hand to choose who he can work best with,” said Tugade.
He is the son of Arthur Tugade, the DOTr chief during the Duterte administration.
“I will continue to root for the LTO’s success even as a private citizen because I will always share in Sec. Bautista’s belief that our offices can be a formidable force for good in our country,” he added.
Tugade took over the LTO in November 2022 and faced various issues, including the shortage of plastic cards for driver’s licenses.
