Sun Life marks 120th year in the Philippines

Sun Life of Canada (Philippines) Inc., the first and longest-standing life insurance company in the Philippines, is marking its 120th year in the country this year.

Making this milestone even more special is the fact that Sun Life is also celebrating this year the 150th anniversary of its founding in Canada

It was in 1895 when Sun Life set foot in the Philippine islands to introduce the concept of insurance to Filipinos. Since then, the company has withstood several challenges along the way.

At the onset of the new millennium, the company went on to diversify its business lines adding mutual funds and pre-need to its roster of products, making it a full-fledged financial services institution. It also trail blazed in product development and technology enhancement programs.

In recent years, Sun Life significantly expanded its service reach to more key cities in the country; dramatically increased its agency manpower in Metro Manila and the provinces; and launched the first-ever financial literacy advocacy in the industry. Aside from business expansion, Sun Life also took bolder steps to strengthen its efforts to help in the development and growth of communities through the Sun Life Financial -Philippines Foundation which focuses on four major areas of concern: healthcare, culture and education, environment and disaster recovery.

All these led to Sun Life’s rise to the top.

Sun Life will be rolling out several initiatives to mark its 120th anniversary in the Philippines. Kicking off the year round celebration will be the signing of partnership between Sun Life and the Bonifacio Arts Foundation for the forthcoming construction of the Sun Life Ampitheater at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Through its Foundation, Sun Life will also continue with its Project 120, a community development program which includes the creation of 120 classrooms and donation of 120 fishing boats to areas devastated by Typhoon Yolanda and the Bohol earthquake.
