CEBU CITY, Philippines — A motorcycle driver was rushed to a hospital after he got injured in a four-vehicle smashup at the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City on Wednesday, September 6.
Motorists on the northbound lane of S. Osmeña Boulevard in Brgy. Carreta, Cebu City experienced heavy traffic following the accident that happened past 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Mabolo Police Station recorded at least one individual injured in the four-vehicle smashup that involved a traditional public utility jeep (PUJ), a tourist van, a motorcycle, and a truck.
Police Corporal Rosaleo Lauron of the Mabolo Police Station identified the victim as Angelo Tampus, the driver of the motorcycle. Tampus was thrown off his vehicle due to the impact.
How four-vehicle smashup happened
Quoting initial findings from traffic investigators, Lauron said all vehicles were traversing the northbound lane of the highway in Brgy. Carreta.
However, the traditional PUJ reportedly lost its brake and crashed into the rear of the tourist van in front of it. In turn, the van crashed onto Tampus’ motorcycle, causing the motorcycle driver to lose his balance and to crash into the vehicle in front of him — a trailer van.
Tampus and his motorcycle landed right underneath the trailer.
He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital after sustaining injuries in different parts of his body.
