Man, who needed money to win back live-in partner, robs student, gets caught by Basak Pardo residents
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A 30-year-old man, who allegedly needed money to win back his live-in partner who allegedly left him, robbed a 16-year-old female student in Sitio Villa San Pedro in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City at past 8 p.m. of September 8.
Residents in the area, however, responded to the girl seeking their help because she was robbed, pursued the robber, caught him and later turned him over to police.

Police Staff Sergeant Benjamin Maglajos, investigator of the Inayawan Police Station or Police Station 7 of the Cebu City Police Office, identified the suspect as Proculo Romera, a resident of Sitio Villa San Pedro.
According to Maglajos, the 16-year-old female student was walking on the sitio on her way to a classmate’s house there at past 8 p.m. when she was approached by Romera.
Romera then allegedly pulled out a knife and robbed the girl.

The suspect allegedly took the girl’s iPhone XR, which was worth P34,000 and then fled.
The girl then sought the help of residents in the area, who pursued and caught the suspect.
Police were then called and the residents turned over Romera to the authorities.
The cellphone of the student was recovered from the suspect and returned to the victim.

In an interview with CDN Digital, the suspect, Romera, asked forgiveness from the victim through the interview and claimed that it was the first time he did such a thing.
The suspect, Romera, claimed that he did what he had done because he needed the money to win back his pregnant live-in partner, who allegedly left him.
Romera was detained at the Inayawan Police Station detention cell pending the filing of charges.
Maglajos said they were readying robbery charges against the suspect.
