Imagine this: the night sky above Southwestern University (SWU Phinma), already brilliant with stars, getting an extra dash of color. Predominantly maroon, of course! That’s the backdrop of the awaited Mundo Granate 2023 Tabularasa color party.
Renowned as the standout kickoff celebration across the Visayas and Mindanao, it symbolizes unity and camaraderie among the students of Southwestern University.
As the evening of September 16 unfurled, Cobras—the proud students and alumni of the institution—found themselves amidst a whirlwind of activities that promised excitement and engagement.
The energy of the evening was palpable. With every beat the renowned DJ Tom Taus dropped, the atmosphere thickened with excitement. And the talent didn’t stop there. Student performers took to the stage, a testament to the reservoir of talent that Southwestern proudly nurtures. The musical spectrum was wide and delightful, from melodies that tug at heartstrings to beats that invite dance.
But Mundo Granate was more than just a musical spectacle. The aroma from various food stalls filled the air, tempting all in proximity. For those seeking a dash of art, face painting booths stood ready to transform and embellish.
“Mundo Granate is the grandest annual celebration of students in Southwestern. Mundo Granate means the Maroon Party—it is a welcoming event, which is celebrated every year,” said Ma. Andhrea Alberastine SWU Student Government President.
This year’s celebration of Mundo Granate stood apart from the rest. While traditionally, it has been the beacon welcoming students to the university, 2023 marked a shift in its rhythm. This year, the festivity played the esteemed role of drawing the curtain on the university’s intramurals. The grand celebration didn’t merely usher in the academic year but brought the enthusiasm and spirit of Siglakas 2023 to a spectacular close.
More than just an annual festivity, Mundo Granate holds a special place in the calendar of events. Renowned as the standout kickoff celebration across the Visayas and Mindanao, it symbolizes unity and camaraderie among the students of Southwestern University. It celebrates diverse backgrounds coming together under shared values and institutional pride.
