Jaguars claw Blue Dragons for fifth win in Cesafi college hoopla
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars unleashed their fury on the newcomers, the Felipe R. Verallo Foundation College Blue Dragons , 81-44, during their game in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Cebu Coliseum.
It was a fitting comeback for the Jaguars after they lost to the defending champions, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, last October 14.
The Jaguars clinched their fifth win in six games, while the Blue Dragons remained winless in five games.
Five of the Jaguars players unloaded double-digit points in their dominant win. Klein Gordillo topscored USJ-R with 17 points, 12 of which came from the three-point line.
Elmer Echavez and Evan Agbong both scored 15 points, while Jake Engbino and Karl Cabulao chipped in 11 and 10 points, apiece.
Kean Planco spoiled his 21-point outing for the Blue Dragons, so as John Gellego’s 10 markers.
Also on the losing end was Verallo’s head coach Norberto “Titing” Manalili who once towed the Jaguars to a collegiate title in the 90s back when Cesafi was still CAAA.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars clicked on all cylinders on their game against the Blue Dragons. They led by 17, 37-20, in halftime, a complete contrast to their loss against UV.
They further stretched their lead to 25, 56-31, in the second half and went on building a staggering 38-point cushion, 78-40, in the endgame.
The Jaguars will return in action on November 7 against the UC Webmasters, while Verallo takes on UP Cebu Fighting Maroons on October 24.
