New challenge, same result
After dominating the local karting scene for several years, racing sensation Jette Calderon is ready to stake his claim in another field and started off on the right track as he won the Open class in the first leg of the 2015 Kartzone Autocross Solo last weekend at the Kartzone race track in barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City.
Calderon, a many-time Karter of the Year award-winner in the Kartzone Superkart Series, masterfully drove his modified Mazda Miata across the intricate track in 1 minute, 8.909 seconds, a full three seconds ahead of second place winner Justin Neri.
Calderon’s time also put him on top of overall standings, putting him in contention for the Driver of the Year and Golden Wheel awards at the end of the series. On top of his victory in the Open class, Calderon also took the crown in the Modified Light and Heavy Expert classes.
For the Modified Heavy Expert division, he logged in a time of 1:10.992 and registered a time of 1:09.470 in the Modified Light Expert competition.
In the other events, Jojo Lloren ruled the AWD class with a time of 1:13.065 even as Ian Tan captured the Modified Heavy Novice title with a time of 1:14.007. Paolo Santos won the Modified Light Novice class as he clocked in at 1:12.534.
UNIFIED VISAYAS SERIES
The three-leg event kicked off the racing season and according to organizer Kim Limgenco, they have partnered with Neil Labrador to pair up the Kartzone series with the Regional Autocross of the Racing Line, turning the event into a unified Visayas series.
