No motorists or public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers were apprehended during the three-day Holy Week break, the regional Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) said yesterday.

LTFRB-7 Director Reynaldo Elnar said both motorists and PUV drivers were made aware of the stiffer fines and penalties under Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-01 to be meted on violators.

“During our inspections, public utility vehicles were well documented and registered,” Elnar said.

PUV drivers found to be overloading are fined P1,000 per violation while colorum operators will be fined P1 million.

“The JAO 2014-01 has contributed a lot because if the violation will happen thrice then there will be suspension of all franchise which will be the loss of the operators,” Elnar said.

Security
At the Cebu City port area Chief Insp. Felix Quianzon, officer-in-charge at port security, said there were no untoward incidents.

“So far, we only have a few passengers now at the port,” Quianzon said.

The Police Regional Office (PRO-7) said the Holy Week observance in Central Visayas had its share of isolated incidents but it was generally peaceful.

Chief Supt. Orlando Ualat, acting PRO-7 chief, disclosed a robbery incident in Panglao town, Bohol and the  murder of a barangay official in Negros Oriental.

Senior Supt. Paul Labra, chief of Regional Intelligence Division (RID), said the annual religious activities in the province slowed down traffic and kept families mostly inside their homes, discouraging criminal elements. Senior Supt. Marciano Batiacela, acting chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said most residents spent the holidays in the province.
