Council questions quota for student summer jobs

The Cebu City Council questioned the quota placed on the hiring of students for the city’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).

Councilor Sisinio Andales said the City Council received only 40 percent instead of the 60 percent allocated under the law. About P5 million is allocated by the city for the SPES program.

Another P4 million is allocated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). “So we would like to ask him, where is now the P9 million? If we have P9 million why is it we are only given 10 students per councilor?” Andales said.

The council will invite Suzzane Ardosa, head of the Cebu City Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) for a hearing on the issue on April 22.
