CPA: Cordova project won’t affect Cebu ports

So long as the planned reclamation in Cordova town will be done along shallow waters, the project won’t affect the docking and movement of vessels at Cebu’s ports, the Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) said yesterday.

CPA asst. general manager Yusop Uckung said the Cordova municipal government should secure a permit from the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) before their office issues it a clearance and permit for the reclamation project.

“They require a permit to construct from us while the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-7)  requires clearance from us in applications for foreshore leases,” Uckung said.

Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy mentioned that the reclamation project in barangays Day-as and Pilipog will start from Shell Island until the lighthouse.

Uckung said the waters along Shell Island to the lighthouse are not shallow and has  minimal sea traffic.

The CPA will also keep their hands off on the layout of the proposed port but once the port is used commercially, Uckung said there will be port charges.
