The Australian tourist who was arrested in a Cebu resort in 2013 for child sex offenses was found dead in his jail cell at 7:15 am.
Hilton Munro, 46, was found hanging from one of the metal rails of his isolation cell of the Cebu provincial jail. A thin cotton blanket was tied around his neck.
Marco Toral, security consultant of the jail, said it was a case of suicide.
Munro, a former hockey player and private school teacher from Melbourne, was facing five counts of human trafficking and violation of a special law for the protection of children.

He was arrested in the Stakili resort in Compostela town in the company of underage boys. Five boys were rescued in the raid by police members of the Regional Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force.
Toral said no one came to visit the inmate during his detention but Munro was in touch by phone with his parents in Australia.
Munro occupied the cell by himself. He was transferred to the isolation cell sometime last year after he flared up, got a bolo and pointed it at fellow inmates, according to Toral.
Munro left a handwritten letter where he said he planned to end his life.
