Cebu road accidents. This is the car that fell off a steep ravine and landed in a farmlot in Sitio Masaba, Barangay Tagbao, a mountain barangay in Cebu City.

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Three road accidents, involving cars falling off ravines after overshooting the side of the road in separate mountain barangays in three days, leave 1 dead in Cebu.

At past midnight on December 16, a car fell off a steep ravine in Sitio Masaba, Barangay Tagbao in Cebu City.

Cebu road accidents: 1st one in Barangay Tagbao

According to a farmer Raul Alcantara in an interview with CDN Digital on Sunday, December 16, whose farm lot where the car landed, that he was surprised by a loud crash in the area.

“Niingon akong asawa nga dunay bato nga naligid sa ilang umahan. Paglili nako sakyanan man,” said Alcantara, whose house was just several meters from where the car landed.

(My wife told me that there was a big stone that fell on their property. But when I peeked, I saw a car on our farmlot.)

300-meter fall

Alcantara said that the policeman who estimated how deep the car fell into the ravine said that it was more or less 300 meters from the side of the road.

He said that no one was seriously hurt among the passengers and driver of the car but to be sure they brought the five victims to the the hospital in Barangay Guba, Cebu City.

Alcantara said that the five had just been to a river resort in the area and were on their way home to Lapu-Lapu City.

Cebu road accidents: Second one in Asturias

On December 17, Sunday, in Barangay Langub, Asturias town in northwestern Cebu, a 77-year-old woman died after driving her car into the side of the road causing her car to fall on its side into a 3-meter deep ravine.

Police, however, said that the woman possibly died because of a heart attack.

Authorities identified the dead woman as Gumora Lao of Barangay Sabang, Danao City.

According to Patrolman Billy Menguito of the Asturias Police Station, citing data gathered by the police investigator, that the victim was on her way to Balamban town when the accident happened.

Menguito also said that Lao was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the hospital.

Cebu road accidents: 3rd one in Boljoon

On Monday, December 18, in Barangay San Antonio, Boljoon town in southern Cebu, the pickup truck of the Boljoon Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) fell off a ravine.

According to residents in Barangay San Antonio, that the personnel of the Boljoon MDRRMO were roving the barangays in the town to inform residents to be more careful and to prepare for the coming storm Kabayan.

But the Boljoon MDRRMO personnel met an accident in Barangay San Antonio, where they fell into a ravine when there vehicle overshot the side of the road.

The pickup truck of the Boljoon MDRRMO fell around 100 meters from the side of the road on a slightly sloping ravine.

No one, however, was injured in the accident.

Another vehicle with a pulley later retrieved the vehicle from the ravine.
