A 30-YEAR-OLD man and his 18-year-old girlfriend were arrested after they eluded a checkpoint in downtown Cebu City last Monday night.
Janrey Sibomit, who drove a motorcycle with his girlfriend, Myrtel Alomo, was caught by police possessing an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol and drug-sniffing paraphernalia.
Sibomit, a resident of barangay Lahug, Cebu City, admitted owning the gun.
Sibomit said he brought the gun for protection because he was supposed to meet a man whom he caught sending text messages to his girlfriend.
Operatives of the Fuente Police Station tried to flag down Sibomit’s motorcycle on Osmeña Boulevard.
Sibomit didn’t stop. Some policemen who were posted a few meters from the checkpoint were alerted and cornered the couple.
The two were detained at the Fuente Police Station pending the filing of charges against them, police said.
