MEMBERS of the Cebu Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) get to breathe the refreshing sea breeze today as they clash in the April edition of the monthly tilts as the tournament swings to Pado Beach Resort in Marigondon, Mactan Island.
Cepca sports committee chairman Jun Olis announced earlier that this month’s edition, which will follow a five-round Swiss System format, is not only for competition but also serves as a family summer outing.
Registration fee is pegged at P500 for Cepca members and P200 each for their companions, while those below 12 years of age will have to shell out P100.
Cash prizes are at stake in the event aside from the two spots to be given to the winners in each of the two categories for the yearend Battle of Champions this December.
Already earning slots for the grand event are Class A’s National Master Arnold Cadiz, Rey Flores and Perterson Sia, while qualifiers who belong to Class B are Regelito Hortelano, Ruel Hortelano and Jun Kidlat.
The qualifiers above can still participate in today’s tournament but the slots for the December tilt will be given to those who have not yet qualified.
