By: Ador Vincent S. Mayol May 01,2015 - 10:05 AM

Two construction workers will face trial for uprooting  five Narra trees along the South Road Properties last week.

Backhoe operator John Richie Pable and William Maata,  a welder of  WT Construction Inc.  were charged on Wednesday with unauthorized cutting of trees in violation of Presidential Decree 953.

Bail was recommended at P4,000 for each of the accused.

A separate charge was filed against Engr. Rolando Albaera,  the project engineer, who allegedly instructed the two workers.

Personnel of the  Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Cebu City and  the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) caught the men in the act of uprooting the trees using a  backhoe last April 25.

When they were  presented before Assistant City Prosecutor Aurora Peñaflor, the two men  chose not to undergo preliminary investigation.

The court directly elevated the case to the court.
