WBO Intercontinental and Asia Pacific Super bantamweight champion Genesis “Azukal” Servania and WBO International Flyweight champion Milan “El Metodico” Melindo will leave for the United States next month to train there under top boxing coaches and trainers.
This after ALA Promotions chief Michael Aldeguer bared that the two promising young champions will hone their boxing skills against Latin and American boxers in the newly built ALA Professional Boxing Gym in San Diego, California, USA.
The unbeaten Servania and Melindo will fly to San Diego, California on January 5.
Aldeguer said that he will be flying first to San Diego to arrange the training of the two decorated boxers. He said that the official launching and opening of the ALA Professional Boxing Gym in San Diego is scheduled mid 2014.
“It will surely help improve not just their confidence but also their skills and prowess inside the ring. They’ll be going up against tough Latin and American sparring partners,” Aldeguer said.
He also bared that he’ll arrange schedules for Servania and Melindo to train in the famed Wild Card gym in Los Angeles. Aldeguer also revealed his plans of sending reigning WBO minimumweight champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo and Jason “El Niño” Pagara to the US next year.
He said this will provide extra exposure not just for the ALA boxing gym boxers but provide an introduction to ALA Promotions in the US market. Aldeguer said that they are planning to promote fights in the US.
“Excited kaayo ko kay kahibalo ko dako jud na ug matabang akong training sa US (San Diego) para pud maka andam ko sa akong umaabot nga fights,” said Servania in an interview with Cebu Daily News during last Sunday’s “Halad Kang Mano Amon” fun run in Danao where he and other ALA Boxing Gym stalwarts joined.
Servania improved his unbeaten record to 23 wins with nine knockouts after knocking out former WBA Light Flyweight champion Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion of Panama last Oct. 26 here in Cebu City in the main event of Pinoy Pride 22.
According to Aldeguer, Servania will probably headline the first Pinoy Pride card next year at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque City, Manila.
“It’s 90 percent sure but we still have other plans,” said Aldeguer. Melindo on the other hand, bounced back from his failure to snatch a world title last July, by beating via unanimous decision Mexican Jose Alfredo Rodriguez last Nov. 30 in the undercard of Pinoy Pride 23 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila.
Melindo on the other hand, sports a pro record of 30 wins, 1 loss with 12 KOs. His lone loss was inflicted by Mexican Juan Francisco Estrada last July in Macao, China for the WBO Flyweight and WBA Super World Flyweight titles.
