Free mini burgers, future champs in Flame It! Burger Run

THE BURGER Run of Flame It! Burger will be more than just a regular running event.

The race, which will be on May 17 starting at the SM City Cebu parking area, has already become popular after announcing earlier that bite-size burgers will be given at the turning point of the 13-kilometer division. Free mini burgers aside,  the event also aims to help aspiring kids kick off their bid to become champion runners.

Fifty kids were selected to join the race by multi-titled triathlete and running coach John Philip Dueñas as part of the culminating activity of the Cebu City Sports Commission’s grassroots development program for running in barangay Guba earlier this year.

“Our partnership with Flame It! has nothing to do with financial matters,”  said CCSC chairman Edward Hayco in a press conference last Thursday  at Flame It! SM City Cebu. “We formed our partnership through our common cause, which is to help young kids here in Cebu City  become not just future athletes  but also  better persons. Flame It! is an inspiration to other companies of what social responsibility is really all about.”

Ella Villacin, who, together with her sibling Louie, own Flame It! Burger, said she is looking forward to seeing these  children become champions.

“The running event will be their stepping stone to what they want to become in the near future,” Ella said.

The beneficiary of the running event is the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Haven-Regional Center for Women in barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

Registration is going on at all Flame It! Burger outlets in Cebu. There are  also registration sites at the Banilad Town Center and Cebu City Sports Center.

Also present in the press conference were race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running, Dueñas and Philippine Team member Mary Joy Tabal, who’s preparing for the Southeast Asian Games.
