The policeman shot by a drunk man in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City died yesterday, Thursday, three days after the shooting incident.
PO1 Richie Lodonia died at the Cebu Doctors’ Hospital where he was operated on to remove a blood clot in his brain.
The bullet injured the policeman’s brain, causing it to swell, according to PO3 Mark Anthony Zamora, investigator of the Olango Island Police Station 1.

A second operation could not be undertaken because of the swelling.
Lodonia, 26, was a member of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Tourist Unit detailed in Olango Police Station 1.
Lodonia, a resident of sitio Mainit, barangay Sta Rosa, was shot in the nape while watching a basketball game in sitio Bunga around 3 p.m. last Monday.
The suspect, Romeo Ortes Labor of barangay Sabang, Olango Island, was killed by police in a hot-pursuit operation around 4:30 p.m. of the same day.
Lodonia is survived by his wife and 3-year-old daughter.
He was the eldest of four siblings. Lodonia completed his Criminology studies at the University of Cebu in 2010.
He joined the PNP force in 2011.
“He was a good policeman,” said Lapu-Lapu City Police Chief Sr. Supt. Armando Radoc.
P03 Zamora described Lodonia as a good and friendly policeman.
“Sayang kaayo ang iyang kinabuhi, bata pa kaayo unya wa gyuy dautang record (Such a waste of life. He was too young to die. He didn’t have any bad record),” Zamora said.
Flags in Olango Police station 1 and at the Lapu-Lapu City Police headquarters were flown at half mast.
Because of the incident, Radoc repeated his call to his men to be always on their guard against threats because of the nature of their job.
