SOME OF the best grassroots basketball squads in the Visayas and Mindanao take center stage as they compete in the Cebu Youth Basketball League Vis-Min Goodwill Games starting today at the Lux Oriens Gym of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Canduman, Mandaue City.

A total of 25 squads from Iloilo, Bacolod, Ormoc, Tagbilaran, Cagayan de Oro and host Cebu are set to compete in the four-day tilt that features two divisions: the under-15 and under-12 divisions.

The visiting teams who are hoping the come away with the crown are Ateneo de Iloilo, Xavier University of Cagayan de Oro, University of St. La Salle, Negros Youth Basketball Club of Bacolod, Warriors Club of Bacolod, Bai Cristobal Camp of Tagbilaran and the Ormoc Fighters.

They will be met by local contingents led by the University of San Carlos, University of the Visayas, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Don Bosco Technology Center, University of Southern Philippines Foundation and the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu.

The VISMIN Goodwill Games is the second of two tournaments under the M. Lhuillier Summer League and managed by the Cebu Youth Basketball League or CYBL. Its regular summer league for Cebu teams ended last week, paving the way for the summer season-ending tournament. The CYBL is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
