Cebu City Council asked to support Green Loop concept

The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) 7 asked the Cebu City Council to support the Green Loop concept for Metro Cebu.
In a public hearing Wednesday morning, NEDA-7 senior economic development specialist Cornelio Guantero Jr. said the Green Loop should be included in the Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUP) of the Metro Cebu local government units that will be included in the loop.
The Green Loop will include the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu and the municipality of Cordova.
Michael Espina, dean of the University of San Carlos – College of Architecture and Fine Arts, said the loop will improve traffic and mitigate the effects of climate change.
“The Green Loop will be a pedestrian-dominated, transit-oriented corridor that will improve social connections among people,” said Espina, who developed the Green Loop concept.
The 42-kilometer Green Loop route will start at the approach of the third bridge near the mouth of the Guadalupe River to V. Rama and B. Rodriguez St..
It also covers Fuente Osmena, Cebu Business Park to Ayala Access Road to Mandaue City through Hernan Cortes Ave., to ML Quezon Ave. going to the second Cebu-Mactan bridge and the Mactan Resort area to Cordova town to barangay Pilipog where the third bridge also ends.
