A plastic pack was believed to contain shabu was recovered from Edgar Luzon as he was about to board an Ormoc bound vessel at Pier 1, Cebu City
A 35-YEAR-OLD man was caught carrying a pack of suspected shabu weighing close to 100 grams as he tried to board a vessel bound for Ormoc City at Pier 1, Cebu City early morning yesterday.
Edgar Ybañez Luzon, a resident of barangay Labangon Cebu City, was about to be frisked at the port’s terminal when he suddenly ran outside and boarded a taxi, according to Felan Zernan, security guard of Cebu Port Authority.
Zernan and co-workers gave chase and flagged down the taxi near the Waterfront Police Station.
A large plastic pack which was wrapped with packaging tape was found in between the seats of the driver and the passenger.
Michael Malaque, 39, driver of Christian Gigi Taxi, disowned the item.
When police, removed the packaging tape, it turned out that the cellophane pack contained white crystalline substance believed to be shabu.
At the police station, Luzon claimed the item was given to him by an unidentified man he met Thursday night in Labangon.
In exchange for P2,000, Luzon was told to bring the item to Ormoc and someone will pick it up at the port.
Luzon said he did not know that the item was illegal drugs.
Luzon said he only agreed to bring the item since he really planned to go to Ormoc to buy sandals/slippers for his buy-and-sell business.
“Had I known it was shabu, I would not have brought it. P2,000 is just a small amount and I still have young children. I don’t know what to do now,” he said in Cebuano.
Luzon admitted that he used drugs before and he was imprisoned for one year in 1999 on drug charges.
The worth of the suspected shabu was not immediately known as the substance is still being tested at the PNP Crime Laboratory.
